HTC is Back with a Bang: The HTC U24 Pro Review

Whenever I think of HTC, it takes me to a memory lane where Andriod phones weren’t in everyone’s reach. The brand sits near the likes of Samsung and Apple but was soon outpaced by the competition, marking its departure in 2020. But that turmoil came as a lesson for the company that novelty is the key to success.

Though HTC offerings appear dated design-wise, the quality is something the brand has never sacrificed, be it hardware or software. HTC U24 Pro reflects that the brand is ready to align with competition and changing customer demands. Released in June 2024, the handsets seem to unfollow the HTC’s conventional design philosophy. It looks visually refreshing and upmarket. On that note, let’s see what this handset is all about and why you must consider it.

Design and Build: Lightweight and Robust

The HTC U24 Pro embraces a refreshingly upmarket design- something unexpected from the brand. It measures 167.1 x 74.9 x 9 mm and weighs almost 199 grams, certainly lightweight compared to the competition. The in-hand feel of this handset is premium. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable to hold either.

With Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the front, you don’t have to care much about accidental drops. The aluminum frame and plastic back contribute to its lightweight aesthetics. The icing on the cake is the IP67 rating, allowing the handset to survive splashes or spills. The phone can withstand water submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes- certainly a worthwhile feature.

Display: Crisp and Vivid

The HTC U24 Pro houses a vibrant  6.8-inch OLED screen so no complaint here either. Thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate, the phone is snappier to use with almost zero glitches no matter what you do. The 1080 x 2436 pixels bring every image and video to life, ensuring a majestic visual experience.

Performance: No Compliant

Under the hood, the HTC U24 Pro gets the snappier Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, best known for multitasking while keeping thermals in check. This chipset is coupled with Adreno 720 GPU, ensuring a seamless graphic experience during intense gaming and multimedia. Storage-wise, the phone comes with generous storage options: 256GB or 512GB and 12 GB of RAM. Also, there is a slot for microSDXC cards if you find these less.

Camera System: Great But Need Improvement

Seems dated, but cameras are good
Seems dated, but the cameras are good

The camera setup on the HTC U24 Pro comprises a triple lens: a 50 MP wide shooter with PDAF and OIS, a 50 MP telephoto optics with 2x optical zoom, and an 8 MP ultrawide lens with a 120-degree field of view. The camera performance is surprisingly good and can delight the camera enthusiasts though it is not on par with most flagships. The phone promises a great quality output with precise contrast, highlight, and color.

Battery and Charging: Respectable, Thanks to the Optimization

Although it seems seemingly less, the 4600 mAh battery powering the HTC U24 Pro can stay alive for a day or two under heavy use. The 60 W charger and 15W wireless charging add to the convenience. There is also a 5W reverse wireless charging, allowing this phone to charge other devices wirelessly.

Connectivity and Features: A Lot of Them

The HTC U24 Pro is 5G-ready and houses a host of connectivity options including GSM, HSPA, LTE, NFC, USB Type-C 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, Bluetooth 5.3, etc. Besides there are some typical additions such as GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and BDS. The phone accommodates an ultra-fast under-display fingerprint sensor for elevated safety. There is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack- a must-have feature for audiophiles.

Conclusion: That’s the HTC Phone We Have Been Waiting For

The HTC U24 Pro seems like gets the job done for the brand this time. It is fairly capable hardware-wise and leaves no stone unturned when it comes to software, safety, and optimization. The phone ticks all the boxes, making it an ideal option for most phone lovers. Unfortunately, the phone is limited to the Tawainese market as we speak, company may make it available in other nations if sale goes up.
